The
Man in the Glass
When
you get what you want in your struggle for self
and
the world makes you king for a day,
You
go to the mirror and look at yourself
And
see what that guy has to say.
It's not your father, your mother your wife
Whose
judgment upon you must pass;
The verdict that counts the most in the world
Is
the One coming back from the glass.
O' the world will say you're a straight shootin' chum
And
call you a wonderful guy,
But
the One in the mirror says you're a bum
If
you don't look me in the eye.
He's
the one you face, you can forget the rest
You see,
he's with you to the end.
And
you've passed your
most dangerous, difficult test
If
the One in that glass is your friend.
You
may fool the world down the pathway of years
And
get pats on the back as you pass;
But
your final reward will be sorrow and tears
If
you've cheated the One in the glass.
